Lab File Download

In order to complete this lab (as well as view the lab solution files) you must download the lab files to your computer. All lab and practice files for this chapter are available for download in a single self-extracting executable file.

To install the lab and practice files:

  1. Download the lab and practice files (982 KB).
  2. Double-click the MVB65.exe program file on your hard disk to start the Extraction program.
  3. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.
  4. Note the directory you install the lab and demo files in.  You will need it for the lab and practice exercises.

Note An additional 2.8 MB of hard disk space is required to install the lab and practice files.

Lab Setup

This course includes lab exercises that give you experience using the skills presented in the chapters. The labs for this course build upon each other from Lab 1 through Lab 9 to create a single application. Labs after Lab 1 contain code to get you started and code for the lab solution. Lab 9 has no code for the lab solution. For detailed information about the design of the labs in this course, see Overview of the State University Bookstore Application in Chapter 1: Visual Basic Essentials.

In order to complete Lab 5, you will need to set up the State University Bookstore database using Microsoft SQL Server. For detailed information on how to set up the State University Bookstore database, see Lab 2, Exercise 1: Creating the StateUBookstore Database.

Note The lab solution code throughout this course uses a SQL Server named MSERIES1. To run the lab solution code with a different server name, replace all occurrences of MSERIES1 with the name of your SQL Server.
