How do I know if I have an account?

If you are currently enrolled in classes at Parkland College you should have an account.  Please keep in mind that account creation can take a couple of days after your initial registration date to be created.

Once you have registered you can go to the activation page and look up your username.  If you have problems looking up your username please follow the instructions on the system's main page which explains alternative ways to find out your username. In addition, the FAQ has answers to login problem questions that may be helpful.

What can I do if I can't find my username?

If you have already tried the activation page and it could not find your username there are a few ways you can get that information:

·        You can ask you instructor to lookup your username through Parkland's mainframe system. They can find your username by searching for you on Screen 10.

·        You can call 217-351-2287 and they can see if you are in the system and tell you your username.

·        You can go to the Center for Virtual Learning, D107, during the following hours and someone will be there to help you. Monday through  Friday – 8:30 am-5:00 pm

ORCA     http://orca.parkland.cc.il.us

What it is....How it works

The ORCA system is designed to help you find all the information you need to know about the courses in which you have enrolled and much more. Each course is listed in your personal webpage, linked to important information about meeting times, textbook information, orientation materials, notes, and course websites.

     The ORCA system creates

How do I get in?

In order to access ORCA, the system needs to know who you are. A username and password identifies you, recalls your customized settings, and prevents others from changing your settings.

The username and password for ORCA is the same username and password that you use for your student email account given to you by Parkland College. For example, if your email address is jsmith@stu.parkland.cc.il.us , your username would be jsmith.

If you are new student, you must activate your email account and set a password before you access ORCA.  This can be done from your home computer or any open-lab computer on campus via a webpage interface. After validating your account, you may access ORCA.

If you have questions or problems activating your email account or accessing ORCA, feel free to call 353-2342, 351-2287 or stop by D107.

Students and tutors can communicate via a live chat room. A tutor must be available online before live chat can occur. To chat with a tutor live, go to the Subjects page. Click on the subject area in which you have a question. Look in the Chat column on the far right of your screen. If a tutor is live and currently available, this will be indicated by the presence of the word "chat" in this column. To chat with the tutor, click on the word "chat" in his or her row. The chat room will open.

Students can see the schedule for live tutoring by clicking on the name of any tutor listed. This screen will indicate when tutors will be live and available to answer questions. If no tutors are available, you can t-mail your questions.

Classmate provides a bulletin board for students to pose question to

peers who are not tutors. This is helpful for students who have questions about particular classes, or have simple, general questions that their fellow students may be able to answer more quickly than a tutor.

The helpful links page provides a plethora of useful sites on the Internet in a variety of subject areas. Mathematics, English, and Study Skills are just a few of the areas of help available. Students not able to contact a live tutor might find answers to their questions here.
