FAQ about the PNX Mailing List
General
- What is the PNX E-mail List?
- The Petri Net Interchange Format Mailing List is used to put
forward the standardization of an interchange format for Petri nets.
It works as a discussion list. This means replies to postings on the
PNX mailing list should be addressed to the list.
The mailing list is maintained by the Petri Net Kernel Group at
Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Germany.
- I have a general question about Petri nets.
May I send this question to PNX?
- No. PNX is a discussion list about an interchange file format for
Petri nets and not about Petri nets or applications of Petri nets.
Please refer to the
Petri Nets World
for general questions about Petri nets or to the
PetriNets E-mail List
for special questions and further details.
Moderation
- What is the role of the Moderator?
- The moderator ensures that only postings of some relevance and quality
are distributed on the e-mail list.
Sometimes the moderator even
changes a submitted posting slightly, before distribution, in order
to make it easier to digest by the participants. Typically what is
changed is
subject lines and references to other postings.
This also helps people when
they need to search the archives later. In this way the moderator also
has an editor role.
- Why is the PNX E-mail List moderated?
- The moderation is in order to spare the participants junk mail
and misdirected postings.
Postings
- Which formats can be used in postings?
- Plain text which is readable by most people and mail clients.
Thus we do not distribute TeX/LaTeX, binary, HTML, Binhex or similar
encodings. Postings which only need slight editing are considered for
distribution on the list, the rest are rejected.
- Am I allowed to send attachments?
- No. If you want to distribute complete articles and other contributions
please only send a link to a webpage or distribute them on demand.
- What is the language of postings?
- The language of the mailing list is English.
- Why don't I receive any postings?
- E-mail addresses which fail through a period of 2-3 weeks are taken
off the list. It may also be the case that the list have been silent
for a period. If in doubt, you can view the
chronological list of
postings to check if you have
received all postings. In case you see many postings on this list
which you have not received, then your e-mail address has probably
been removed. Try resubscribing.
- Why is the subject prefixed with "(PNX)"?
- All postings distributed on the list are prefixed with the string
"(PNX)". In this way it is easy to recognise PNX postings
both for people and automatic mail sorters. (When posting it is
not necessary to include the prefix yourself as it is done
automatically.)
