Volker Gruhn (Universität Dortmund):
Process Landscaping - A Petri Net based Method for Structuring Complex Processes

Processes (software processes as well as other business processes) usually cover various activities from several subprocesses. Models of these processes tend to become rather complex. Mechanisms to structure these models are needed. The process landscapig approach allows to model processes on different abstraction levels without loosing the overview about the whole framework of processes and their interfaces. It also ensures that key decisions about processes are not burdened by an overwhelming amount of detail. In this presentation we discuss the method of process landscaping in the light of real-world business processes from a telecommunication company. We formalize some of the most important terms around the notion of a process landscape and we use this formalization to formulate some consistency conditions for process landscapes.
